Our last hunt of the season was a frustrating day with hounds working hard, but unable to carry a line. Hunters retired at the end of the day to remember the highlights of the season over hunt breakfast at Tilda Bogue.

February 27

sunny, chilly

Hounds ran that squirrelly coyote one last time from the Old Hayfield through North Country and the Wilderness and back again!

Hounds were cast into the Pines and worked along Oil Tank Road. Hounds struck near Old 51 and circled through the Wilderness to the Moonscape where they lost. Road whips picked the hounds up on Soul Chapel Road to travel home in style.

A great day for your first hunt. We rode on lead line with third flight. At the end of the hunt, we briefly joined first flight as the huntsman collected hounds.

Hounds cast into the Pines and hunted quietly to the Pipeline and south to the South Fire Lane. South whip viewed the light coyote at the edge of the pine covert and hounds hit that line. The chase moved north towards Oil Tank and west to the Pipeline. Turning east,

Hounds ran through the Old Hayfield and across Old 51 and Two Tank field. They entered the Wilderness and continued east before looping back to run towards Two Tank. Hounds ran through the small pine covert between Two Tank and Old 51 before crossing back

into Little Hayfield. The chase worked its way back through the Pines to Pipeline. Hounds were stopped between Pipeline and the Too Cute Clubhouse to end a fine hunting day.

One whip demonstrated the dangers of talking on the radio while jumping the log on North Trail by coming a cropper. (Don't drive and talk on the cell phone???)

A good time was had by all of the hardy hunters!

Hounds were cast into the Pines and hunted quietly to Pipeline and east. Near the Old Hayfield, they opened. South whip viewed the chased coyote and hounds crossing Old 51 into the Wilderness. Hounds ran through the Moonscape and turned back to the west crossing Old 51 again and splitting. The field followed the hounds running west and circling until the line was lost and hounds were roaded in. The other hounds ran through Old Hayfield and lost.

A good hunting day was had by all. Whitty's eggnog was enjoyed at the Too Cute Clubhouse.

Hounds were cast in the North Country behind Mr. John's. They worked along Old 51 and then east along the fence line to Tight Gap. Hounds spoke at Tight Gap and ran through the pines, with whips turning the game several times keeping it in the North Country. The chase turned northeast towards Oh God!, where the chased coyote cub was viewed. The game ran to the north property line and then turned south again. Hounds were gathered and roaded to the Wilderness. Hounds opened and ran east between center and north trail and crossed back over Loves Creek to the North Country to run the first loop again. When the game and hounds came back to Loves Creek, whippers-in were behind and the hunt crossed again to run to the Moonscape. Whips scrambled to keep up. Hounds were scattered as the game continued south. Hounds were picked up on Field Road, Truitt Road neat the power line and Truitt Road near the Dead Man's House. With ten couple of hounds in the trailer, the riders returned to the Big House for Whitty's famous Egg Nog. A fine hunt for all!

Hounds crossed Old 51 and ran in the Wilderness to the Moonscape. Brought back to water in the pond in Two Tank, hounds struck again, running into the North Country and crossing Old 51 and running north and west through the North Cotton field and west of Highway 51. Hounds were picked up from Old 51 to New 51. A great hunt after two weeks of bad weather.

What was that?!

Hounds worked quietly through the Pine Covert and then struck running toward the South Cotton Field. When stopped on riot, they could not pick up the line again. They were cast again in the Pines east of Pipeline. Hounds opened and ran through Old Hayfield towards Old 51 speaking intermittently. The pack crossed Old 51 and worked through the heavy coverts in Two Tank Field. They worked hard to the south and slowly circled back west. Huntsman, field and south whippers-in were surrounding the covert when the

chased game crashed out of the thickets, barreled across the fire lane an inch behind the whipper-in's horse and flew into the open woods to cross Old 51 back into Old Hayfield. BOBCAT! Hounds pursued their game back into the Pines before loosing.

Cast again, they opened and ran fox, crossing in front of third flight and crossing Old 51. They ran across Two Tank into the Wilderness and circled back. Hounds were gathered in Two Tank field and kenneled into the hound trailer for the trip home.

A great time was had by all.

When the landowners reported viewing red fox, bob cat and a large number of coyotes the evening before the meet, hunt staff knew to mount up ready to ride hard. Hounds were cast northwest of the pond behind the house and quickly struck running northwest. West whips galloped hard to stay between the hounds and the railroad tracks, turning game and chasing hounds back to the east. East whips were also working hard as the hounds circled through pine covers near James' Gap. The field enjoyed an extensive run. Hounds were gathered from the area and roaded in. Riders retired to another hearty hunt breakfast. A great end to Opening Weekend.

After a delicious Hunt Breakfast, successful Silent Auction and the Blessing of the Hounds over forty riders followed as hounds were cast in the pine cover west of the Big House. Hounds worked quietly to Love's Creek, where they were roaded across Old 51 and recast along Love's Creek. They struck and ran east and south across Love's Creek and through the Wilderness to the Moonscape. A small split ran south between South Trail and Soul Chapel Road and were stopped by the south and road whippers-in. The rest of the pack crossed Love's Creek and ran back into the North Country, circling between Hildy's Pond and Tight Gap until they lost the line and were gathered. The hounds and field finally arrived at Check Point after a long run. With most hounds on and the temperature soaring, hounds were retired for the day. A great time was had by riders and guests ... estimated breakfast count was 250 people!

North whippers-in viewed the chased game. South whippers-in turned he game back into the covert twice and had a unchased fox yell-barking at them.

Beginner Hunt Day started with a hunt seminar for new members and guests. After announcements the field moved off to the north inside the power line. Hounds struck and had an extended run, circling through the covers from James Gap to the bean fields. When the game was finally lost, hounds were gathered and roaded to the western side of the covert. Cast along the railroad tracks, they worked hard to pick up a line. The game took them quickly north to the area of the earlier chase and then led them into the Forbidden Woods. Here the chase was stopped and hounds picked up to road to the cast. With all hounds on, the riders retired to a extensive hunt breakfast. A fine time was had by all.
